Port Fairy
identity Michael Hearn has been establishing high-class accommodation
in town for many years, and I've been visiting regularly to see his
latest instalments. There's no doubt he has an eye for location, but
he also makes sure the most modern of luxuries are included so guests
have everything to turn a weekend into a relaxing holiday.
Hearns
Beachside Villas (left) and Bowsons Nest (bottom left) are at South Beach, a couple of
kilometres from town. You can’t get much closer to the beach
without getting your feet wet - imagine watching a storm-lashed Southern
Ocean break on the offshore reef from the comfort of a
trendy villa, beachcombing or a paddle.
The Beachside
villas are just a stone’s throw from the waters edge. they are
one and two bedroom villas reflecting, I think, Moroccan style and
are built in mellow Australian limestone to offer private, self-contained
luxury. You can be a storm watcher from the lounge, bedroom, or even
the spa bath.
Just along
the beach, Bowsons Nest is a three bedroom villa with two bathrooms,
and it reflects all the luxuries of the Beachside villas. Polished
timber floors, stainless steel fully equipped kitchen, floor to ceiling
windows looking out to the ocean, modern furnishings, spa bath, open
plan dining and lounge, tv/dvd and stereo, sheltered rear courtyard
with bbq. Heating and cooling, of course.
Port Fairy
is close by, but you’ll be so mesmerized by the ocean’s
turbulent winter moods that it will be hard to leave. You'll have
to cater for yourselves, but a breakfast hamper can be provided on
request and platters of fresh local seafood can be ordered for delivery.
